Kraków is a great attraction in itself: it boasts a Royal Castle, Europe’s allegedly biggest medieval square, churches Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque; museums of art and history both ancient and modern.  Obviously, a tour of the city will be on the social program menu for DH2016. The Conference Banquet (optional) will be held in the gardens of Kraków’s Archeological Museum (originally, a convent, then a prison for quite some time) in the very center of the Old Town, next to, and with direct views on, the Wawel Castle on its Hill.

Excursions outside the city will also be offered. One is a trip down both space and time: the Wieliczka Salt Mine  has been worked since the Middle Ages, and that old salty world is there for you to discover. Those who have to cut their sodium intake, or who prefer not to descend into the Earth, can let themselves be taken on a rafting trip down one of the mountain rivers of the Kraków region, where folk-costumed oarsmen deftly steer traditional wooden vessels down the Dunajec past the majestic cliffs of the Pieniny range.
